Athleta In-House Videographer

Athleta, located in San Francisco, is in search of our first ever in-house videographer and editor extraordinaire. We are on the hunt for a filmmaker who believes storytelling is a powerful tool for connection and inspiring action. Working along a team of creatives, you will amplify Athleta’s big ideas as well as find smaller moments to help us bring our “inside out”- catching those impromptu moments and stories “behind the scenes.” You are a maker, nimble in your craft: from short to longer form, scripted to exploratory, scrappy to refined- and are able to create pieces that elicit a range of emotions. You are as comfortable behind the scenes as you are in an editing booth.

Why is this role important for Athleta’s work?

As a filmmaker at Athleta you won’t just create videos, you will operate as a storytelling “designer,” who builds narratives, memories and people’s journeys alongside a multidisciplinary team of creative thinkers. You’ll do everything from connecting with people, identifying stories, writing scripts, storyboarding ideas, and otherwise inspiring and inviting a new generation of Athleta customers into our collective.

Once here you will:

  • cut straight to the heart of the matter, communicating complex ideas as short, simple, and memorable videos that persuade crowds

  • script stories that illustrate innovative ideas, experiences and prototype the user journey

  • develop animations and motion graphics pieces

  • extend your craft from filmmaker/storytelling to “designer of stories”, using story as a prototyping mechanism for internal and external uses

  • source music and licensing

  • video capture on location, in studio and in the office

Relevant experience:

  • 5-7 years of experience in storytelling, filmmaking, video editing, motion graphics, or a related craft, with emphasis on making things by hand

  • you have experience in both scripted and exploratory/documentary work

  • storyboarding and/or clearly communicating ideas

  • script writing and development

  • coordinating end-to-end logistics for video shoots

  • you make magic with a lot or very little equipment, depending on project needs

  • You know what it means to work with clients (internal or external)

  • Drone capabilities are a plus

  • You’re game to travel, domestically and internationally. We do some amazing shoots in pretty inspirational locations, and you’d often be along for the ride!
